Early March 2025, Railcolor published the new that the Bulemu consortium, comprising French Alstom and Bulgarian RPV Invest, had secured a contract to deliver 35 EMUs to Bulgaria, financed partially through the EU Recovery and Resilience Plan.

On 18.12.2023, Siemens Mobility and the Bulgarian state railways (BDZ Passengers) signed a contract to deliver ten extra Smartron electric locomotives (25 in total).

Bulgaria is undergoing a significant railway modernization. The Ministry of Transport has announced that it has selected a contractor for seven double-decker units financed with funds from the EU recovery plan.
